Question:

I had a C-section three years ago, and I am due again at the end of October. Is it safe to have a VBAC after so long? Or should I go with another C-section?

Answer:

Dr. Pablo Rodriguez responds:
Your potential risk has nothing to do with how long ago the Cesarean was. What's important is the type of incision that was used on your uterus originally. It's safer to go for a VBAC if you had a transverse rather than a vertical incision. The other relevant detail is the number of previous Cesareans you've had. Since you've only had one, you should discuss the details with your physician so that the two of you can make a plan together for both a safe and a great delivery.
