Baby:
Your baby is now about the size of a cherry. The different sections of the brain are growing quickly and becoming more defined. The pituitary gland, an important organ that controls the production of hormones, is now forming at the base of the brain.
The windpipe and tiny lung buds appear. Although the lungs are starting to take shape, all of baby’s oxygen will continue to come from the mother through the placenta until birth.
The lower jaw becomes more prominent, and tooth buds and eyelids are forming. At this point the liver takes over the important production of blood cells.
Fingers, toes and elbows are emerging. As the body straightens out and the head takes on a rounder shape, the embryo begins to resemble a little person!
Mom:
The amazing process taking place inside of you has been happening since the dawn of time — with a lot less help than nowadays — and the best thing you can do is to just let it happen.
That being said, you may notice that as your baby’s tiny body continues to grow, you’re starting to feel different.
As your uterus begins to expand, you may notice a tingling or pain in your abdomen. In most cases it’s just your own form of “growing pains” and nothing to be concerned about. (If the pain doesn’t subside pretty quickly or if it’s accompanied by bleeding or other symptoms, you should call your doctor or practitioner.)
If you feel dizzy occasionally — especially if you get up too fast or if you’ve been on your feet for a while — you're probably experiencing a momentary drop in blood pressure. Again, this is perfectly normal and nothing to be concerned about.
So take your time standing up. Or get off your feet for a while. Take care of yourself as your baby is doing all that developing in there.
